Dream of gin-clear flats extending from horizon to horizon with schools of Bonefish, big Bonefish, in the thousands. Bonefish are plentiful & travel on both hard & soft bottom flats so fishing will be about 1/2 wading and 1/2 boat casting. If you have fished in the Bay of Ascension you can expect fewer but larger fish in Xcalak. The average being 3 to 4 pounds. The average fly fishing person can expect to catch 6 - 12 bonefish per day. These "ghosts of the flats" swim about 27 miles per hour... the average trout 9 miles per hour. Bonefish inhabit some of the most beautiful ocean waters on Earth. They are present in all tropical and semitropical waters between, roughly, 30 degrees north and 30 degrees south of the equator. In the Pacific, they are found from Mazatlan and Acapulco, Mexico, south to Panama and west to Australia. In the Atlantic, they exist from Bermuda south to Brazil and east to Africa. Bonefish are also known throughout the Indian Ocean and have been documented in the Red Sea.
